From a garage apron to a full frontage
Yaxley is village sized only on paper. It runs from the old core around Main Street, Church Street and Broadway, where the buildings are older and the plots irregular, out through decades of estate building to edges that now effectively touch the Peterborough fringe. The result is an unusually wide range of frontages in one place: short period frontages with no room to spare, generous 1960s and 1970s plots with a garage and a long lawn, and recent development with small rectangular parking areas and shared boundaries.
The most common request here is the middle one: a postwar frontage where the original drive is too narrow, the garage has become a room, and the household now needs to park two or three vehicles off the road. Bringing the drive, the old garage apron and part of the lawn together into one poured surface solves that in a way that patching in extra blocks never quite does, because the finished area has no join running through the middle of it.
The ground here is the clay this part of the county was known for, the same beds that fed the brickworks between Yaxley and Peterborough and left the pits that are now lakes and open water. Clay is slow draining and moves with moisture, so the compacted sub base and the drainage design are the parts of the job that matter most. Colours and patterns for Yaxley properties

Where the house is warm brick, sandstone, brick red and autumn brown are the natural companions; on the paler and greyer estate stock, slate grey and charcoal look sharper and more current. Ground, access and drainage in Yaxley
Clay is the planning issue. It holds water, so the falls and any channel drain are designed in from the start rather than added if a problem shows up. Fantastic team, professional but friendly. They have done a brilliant job on our front drive a few years ago and this year on our back garden, with new decking, imprinted concrete patio and pathway and finished off with a gravel area and turf. They did the whole job from start, clearing the area, working through bad weather where they could and only the recent snow held the job up and only by a couple of days! Definitely recommend 100%.
